I've been playing with the same money for over 40 years.

Years and years ago, I never spent change and all of my change went into large gallon pickle jars. One year I decided to cash in, but I was too lazy to wrap it. I told my kids that if they'd wrap it, I'd give them 10%

My daughter agreed and there was almost 3,000.00, so I rounded up and gave her 300.00

I only play blackjack, Back then I could find 2.00 and 5.00 tables. I took 100.00 a day when in Las Vegas or Atlantic City for conventions. (Today all you can find is 15-25 dollar tables with come casinos only 50 so I take 500-1K a day) I never dipped into our money. So if I lost, I walked.

Today my fund is 8 or 9K (after some really big wins, I paid for my pro cameras and lenses, and one spectacular win on a cruise I paid for the cruise, 1 semester of college for my kids and a trip to Reno---But, those wins were very rare. I'm happy with winning a few hundred a day, but that doesn't always happen)

My gambling fund has been as high as 17-20K and as low as a few hundred.

I love blackjack because it is so frustrating. You can do everything 100% correctly and someone can do everything wrong and they win while you lose. I can count, but don't. Too many of my friends have been banned, and today if you're banned at one casino-the ban is usually every casino in the area.

So I just sit and play with my Basic Strategy card https://www.ebay.com/itm/37587084387...KM8SB9SNE25X2A
on the table in front of me and talk and have fun

I forgot to add.

To get back on topic, 2 relatives sons committed suicide due to on- line gambling getting out of hand, Both were well educated, making good money and had kids. One was an Eagle Scout. Sickening!

I believe that on-line gambling will cost many lives and destroy many families!

I like betting on horses. My bets tend to be on the small side, in the $2 to $6 range, though I may go up to $12 on rare occasions. Note that I don't always bet. The challenge, and the fun, for me lies in analyzing all the numbers and information in the Racing Form, and making reasonable and educated selections. I'm happy having a beer, analyzing the Form, and discussing selections with other horseplayers; and if I'm down $20 at the end of the day, well, that's the cost of that afternoon's entertainment.

But a buddy of mine had a real problem with horse race betting. He could, and on a few occasions, did, lose $1000 in a single day. More often, though, his daily losses were in the $500 to $800 range. Yeah, he had a problem. Thankfully, he got help, and has not been to a racetrack or a casino in at least 30 years. The closest he gets to racing nowadays is watching the Kentucky Derby on TV.

Well, he hasn't quite quit all gambling. He's been known to bet me the next round of beer at the sports bar. Say, something like, "The Broncos are going to score a touchdown before the end of this quarter. Bet you the next round that they do." But if all he bets nowadays is a round of beer, and that not very often, I think he's doing pretty well.

For example, I had a cousin who blew through the entire family inheritance after a long weekend in Vegas. Talk about going out in style.
Similar story...I knew a guy that at age 18 found himself an orphan with a million $ + inheritance (this was in the late 70's). His only living relation was a much older half-brother, and they detested each other.
The years that he should have spent getting an education were instead spent 'at the tables'. It took him about three years to blow through the entire fortune.
