For story on the most exciting L1 promotion race ever. Nothing. Six stories on Chelsea though. And of course one on Wrexham.

The BBC and most MSM have been like this for years, as if football does not exist outside of the PL, "Champions" League, possibly Championship and of course the WSL.

Another reason to get out of this dour league - absolutely pathetic coverage.

You'd think organisations like the BBC would at least understand about the pyramid system and where many of the footballers in the Prem today started out - Vardy, Kalvin Phillips, Jordan Pickford, and of course our own Tyrone Mings and Flynn Downes.

Can't say I'm overly bothered, in the past it seemed like everytime the spotlight shone on us following a good run of form, everything started to go wrong!

They can do their feature on us once we're promoted.

They dont have the money for much in-depth analysis outside of the premier league, for some reason.

And a live build up of the Spammers highly anticipated clash with the 28th best team in a minor European league. Following their win over a Cypriot team who would have envy of Accrington’s ground and support.

Same goes for TalkSport. Have a whole section for EFL with an EFL "expert" and talk for 5 mins about the Championship and that's it.

(Edit: sorry I replied to the wrong post. the comment I think is unfair is "You'd think organisations like the BBC would at least understand about the pyramid system ")

I don't understand this criticism. The BBC covers lower-league and non-league football pretty comprehensively. Southend are in the National League, but still every game, home and away, has commentary and analysis. BBC Essex then covers about twenty other non-league clubs. Most people in Essex support West Ham and Spurs, but BBC Essex never mention them except in passing.

I'm enjoying it at the moment - but it doesn't become the most exciting L1 promotion race ever just because we're in it.

This time last year wasn't exactly boring either - except for us;

Let's not look too pretentious by assuming that there hasn't been any exciting promotion battles before the one we're now in. It's exciting, but it's nothing the league hasn't seen before.

Because (just one example out of thousands) their continuing to chat abstractly for 30 mins about Chelsea, who aren't even playing at the time, whilst simultaneously *not* reporting the goals going in at a top-of-the-table live L1 match, is an absolutely hair-tearing, object-throwing, frustrating disgrace!

It seems that coverage below Championship level is more restricted to BBC Local Radio. I assume that we get pretty comprehensive coverage on Radio Suffolk - I'm not in the broadcast area so I don't know.

Up here, the top football stories on Radio Shropshire are always about League 1 Shrewsbury and National North Telford, with live commentary of all games for both clubs split between FM and DAB as needed. Wolves occasionally get a mention as the 'big' club down the road, but you're still more likely to hear details of Market Drayton Town in the Midland Premier than you are a full report on (for example) Norwich v Blackburn.

Whether that continues as the massive cuts to BBC LR loom is another matter.

Quite - I was talking about BBC Radio5l, as I live in North Yorkshire where of course I can't get RS at all, and where my local radio only covers Harrogate Town, can't even get a signal for Radio Leeds.

The BBC website is of course v. good, but I don't want to have to go & wake up my devices + put my wet or sticky fingers on keyboard or screen when I'm cooking or doing other chores!

There are 4 sleeping giants Bolton, Derby, Town, Wendies in L1 this season.

Spose Sunderland is a sleeping giant but I don't think Portsmouth is.

Agreed. Wrexham seem to be getting loads of coverage and of course the top leagues and Europe gets a load of stories.

The women's football gets a lot more coverage now too. Talksport give updates on women's PL games, which they would never do with League 1 or 2 games so they've definitely overtaken lower league football.

Promotion race? Yes they were - unless you're focussing specifically on the title race of course.

How would you say they're not?

Tbh I'm not especially interested in the kind of lightweight coverage we'd get from Auntie (though I'm an ardent BBC fanboy in other areas).

I get all I need from TWTD and various podcasts, and the odd mention or in depth story elsewhere like the Athletic.

BBC's football coverage is generally pretty banal innit?
